The Friend's of the Locust Fork River Art and Photo Contest BannerThis year’s Friends of the Locust Fork River Art and Photo Contest theme is Celebrating the Woodlands and Rivers of Blount County and is all about showcasing the natural beauty of Blount County.  The competition will feature twelve categories for teens and adults. This year’s photo categories are:

  • Locust Fork River or its Tributaries, Lakes & Waterfalls
  • Roots & Shoots
  • Birds & Raptors
  • Furry Creatures
  • Sun Basking Creatures
  • Bugs & Butterflies
  • Habitat & Seasons
  • Sky, Sunsets and Sunrises
  • Rocks & Geology
  • People and/or Pets
  • Locust Fork Canoe & Kayak Whitewater Races
  • Events organized by FLFR


To participate in the Friends of the Locust Fork River Art and Photo Contest:

  1. Read the Photo or the Art Contest Rules
  2. Register your name and registration on and take note of the transaction ID number
  3. Photo Contestants: Between May 1st and July 31st, 2019 submit your entries to #ob#cubgb#at#SYSEny.pbz#ob#, and include your name, age, transaction ID number, category, and title of each photo
    Art Contestants: Write artist’s name, age & transaction ID # on the back of the art entry. Complete the Art Contest Form and take your artwork and this form to the Oneonta Public Library, Blountsville Public Library, or Hayden Annex during their business hours.


The Rules for the photography contest are as follows:

  • Entries will be accepted between May 1st and July 31st, 2019.
  • Each photographer/artist may submit up to 6 entries from any of the categories.
  • Photos may be color or black & white and must have been taken during 2017, 2018 or 2019.
  • Photos should be submitted as high-resolution jpegs.
  • File size is limited to 10 MB (if you email from your phone do not reduce the size).
  • Submitted photos should not have a visible name, date, border or any type of watermark.
  • Minor adjustments of color/contrast, sharpening, spotting, dodging and burning are acceptable, but photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying special effects such as collage, photo composites, or HDR are not acceptable and will be disqualified.

The Rules for the art contest are as follows:

  • Entries will be accepted between May 1st and July 31st, 2019.
  • One entry per artist. Choose from any of the categories.
  • Submissions can include any form of flat work: oil, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, colored pencils, pastels, textured collages, mixed media, glass. If traced, only from a photo taken by the submitter (submit that photo with the artwork).
  • Any size is acceptable.
  • Non-eligible works include: paint-by-numbers, nudes or anything containing an obscenity
  • Submissions may include any style (e.g. fine art, realistic, abstract, surrealism etc.)

Judging and Awards

Each category will be judged by a local business, who will choose a winner to receive a $100 Business’ Choice Award. OTELCO is proud to be judging the Habitats and Seasons categories. Judges will make decisions based on originality, technical excellence, outstanding representations of subject, composition, and story. There will also be a first second and third place overall teen and adult winner, who will receive prizes ranging from $200-$25.

Winners and notable mentions of the Friends of the Locust Fork River Art and Photo Contest will be notified by email no later than August 31, 2019. Prizes will be handed out at the Award Ceremony at the Blount County Fair in September. After the award ceremony, winning and honorable mention photos and artworks will be displayed in a traveling exhibit from September 2019 to May 2020.
