DP Industries, Inc. in Vassalboro, ME is a long standing customer of OTELCO. Led by Curt Dugal, a group of employees have decided to support the Make A Wish Foundation by Walking for Wishes in Portland on May 19th.
A bit about Make A Wish…..
The Make-A-Wish was founded on April 29, 1980, when officers of the Arizona Department of Public Safety granted the wish of 7-year-old Chris, who was living with leukemia, to be a police officer for a short time. The power of that wish in his life provided the inspiration for Make-A-Wish. Today, there are 66 chapters across the US, and 29 international affiliates.
Founded by Wayne and Caroline Morong in Camden, the Maine Chapter of Make-A-Wish opened in 1992. It has grown to serve children in each of Maine’s 16 counties. To date, more than 1,100 wishes have been granted to Maine children. This year, the organization expects to grant wishes for 70 Maine children facing life-threatening medical conditions — that’s an average of one wish every five days.
All wish expenses are fully covered, including travel and spending money, the average cost of a wish is $7,000. The Make A Wish objective is to provide the child and family with a worry-free experience.
Funds are raised through the generosity of individuals and businesses, and through events conducted both by the organization and outside community groups. Make-A-Wish Maine is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and all contributions are tax deductible. The Maine chapter has nearly 200 volunteers statewide, and a staff of seven. Our office is located at 477 Congress Street, Suite M1, Portland, ME 04101.
And the DP Industries crew?
In addition to Patty, Tom, Mike, and Curt, the team is lucky to have a ringer who LOVES to walk.
Casco is a cute Golden Retriever puppy who LOVES to walk. As a matter of fact, the only thing he likes more than walking is Walking for Wishes!
OTELCO is proud to serve our friends at DP Industries, and we commend their efforts to raise funds for such a worthy cause. We hope that you will join us in supporting their efforts by making a donation.
