LeverettNet is a Fiber to the Home (FTTH) broadband network that delivers symmetrical 1-Gigabit-per-second (1Gbps) High Speed Internet to its subscribers. The network was built by the Town of Leverett and is operated by the Leverett Municipal Light Plant (LMLP) serving 680 customers.
OTELCO will be responsible for connecting new customers, customer service, and 24 / 7 technical support. “I am very excited to be able to work with LMLP to provide Internet services to the residents of Leverett,” commented Otelco CEO, Rob Souza, “I am even more excited that we will be able to offer subscribers a cost savings over the previous ISP’s pricing”.
“The Leverett MLP is looking forward to a smooth and almost invisible transition to OTELCO by the end of the first quarter of 2017”, said Leverett Town Administrator and MLP Manager, Marjorie McGinnis, “LeverettNet subscribers will benefit from a cost saving and an expanded long distance calling plan.”
OTELCO’ basic product offerings will include money-saving bundles for phone and Internet and a broader long distance offering than the current plan, offering even more value to subscribers. Additional services will include Home Automation products for home security, safety monitoring, and elder care. OTELCO is committed to providing high quality customer support, and provides 24-7 technical support with its own full time staff at its network operations center in Bangor, Maine and technical personnel from its Granby, Massachusetts office when needed to resolve problems.
‘Our company has a long lineage in the telecommunications industry; from phones in the 1800s to fiber to the premise for today’s customers”, commented OTELCO Marketing and Sales Director, Trevor Jones, “It’s particularly rewarding to help municipalities achieve their community broadband goals.”
But OTELCO’s commitment to the communities it serves goes beyond the technology it sells. “We pride ourselves on a tradition of excellent customer care, and a commitment to be active members of the communities we serve,” said OTELCO Marketing Manager, Tracy Scheckel, “part of that community commitment is to provide free basic computer classes for our subscribers. I look forward to working with area educators to facilitate and underwrite the cost of this valuable Digital Literacy training for our LeverettNet subscribers who may need or want it.”
OTELCO is currently underwriting successful digital literacy programs in 4 of its 6 service areas and working to coordinate programs in the two remaining locations.
