OTELCO, a telecommunications provider serving areas of Maine, Alabama, Massachusetts, Missouri, Vermont and West Virginia, is bringing improved broadband connectivity with its Lightwave Fiber Internet to portions of Etowah and Jefferson Counties in Alabama. In addition to a $1.2 million investment in Gigabit Internet in Morgan City, OTELCO has announced that it will construct more than 200 additional miles of Fiber-to-the-Premise network that will result in the availability of symmetrical Gigabit Internet to approximately 18,700 additional locations.
In Etowah County, the investment in FTTP infrastructure will serve approximately 10,750 locations over 130+/- miles in portions of Gadsden, Glencoe, and Attalla. The anticipated completion date for the construction is late 2021 or early 2022 in Attalla, and early 2022 in Gadsden and Glencoe, at which time OTELCO will begin scheduling installations.
In Jefferson County, an 80+/- mile build will serve approximately 7,950 locations in portions of Clay and Pinson. The anticipated completion date for the construction is late 2021 to early 2022 at which time OTELCO will begin scheduling installations.
“The OTELCO family of companies have a long-standing tradition of delivering state of the art communication technologies to our subscribers in the states we serve; today that technology is futureproof fiber, and we couldn’t be more excited about bringing the technology to these communities,” commented OTELCO CEO, Richard Clark.
Clark also explained that the build schedule may be impacted by factors such as supply chain issues and weather events that are beyond OTELCO’s control.
OTELCO has interactive maps to help residents of these communities see if their location is part of these builds. Visit www.otelco.com/builds to learn more and register to be among the first to get connected when the network is complete. All area residents are encouraged register even if they are not part of the initial project area. Coverage may be expanded if there is an overwhelming response.
