Implements Corero’s SmartWall Threat Defense System for Proactive Protection against DDoS Attacks
New Gloucester, ME – May 24, 2016 – OTELCO, a premier communications provider delivering managed services as well as a full spectrum of phone and data services to business and residential customers, has taken further action to better protect its customers from the ramifications of DDoS attacks. DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attacks, are rampant across the Internet and making headlines regularly. DDoS attacks target a victim’s network, obstruct online service availability, or pose an even greater security threat to their business. While the costs associated with successful DDoS attacks are wide ranging, the impact is always damaging.
Every Internet Service Provider is susceptible to these attacks, but there are steps that can be taken to eliminate the threat. OTELCO has taken a big step with the deployment of Corero’s SmartWall® Threat Defense System (TDS). The in-line deployment of the SmartWall TDS monitors Internet traffic headed toward the OTELCO network, identifies DDoS activity, and mitigates the attacks in real-time — before it can affect end-users on OTELCO’s network, allowing all legitimate user traffic to continue to flow as intended.
“The OTELCO network, like any other, is not immune to DDoS attacks”, commented OTELCO Vice president of New England Operations, Ed Tisdale, “By investing in the Corero SmartWall TDS, we are bringing the value added service of Internet security and peace of mind to our business and residential customers across the entire OTELCO network.”
The company investigated multiple options to protect the network; the SmartWall TDS was selected because it mitigates DDoS attacks before they hit the OTELCO network and doesn’t compromise the network redundancy that OTELCO has established. Coupled with the SmartWall TDS real-time protection, OTELCO also takes advantage of the Corero SecureWatch® service for state-of-the-art monitoring and reporting technology along with highly experienced engineers for support before, during and after an attack.
Service providers, like OTELCO rely on Corero’s award-winning technology to eliminate the DDoS threat to their environment through automatic attack detection and mitigation, coupled with complete network visibility, analytics and reporting. Most recently, Corero received “Recommended” rating in NSS DDoS prevention system security value map. Corero SmartWall Threat Defense System earned NSS Labs sought-after rating, with high marks in overall security, performance, and total cost of ownership. “Protecting vital network availability from the threat of DDoS attacks is a proactive step that all service providers should be taking. Corero is proud to be a part of OTELCO’s initiative to provide this level of protection for their business and residential customers, “said Dave Larson, COO, Corero Network Security.
