OTELCO Expanding Its Lightwave Fiber Internet Zone in Shoreham

OTELCO, a telecommunications provider serving areas of Maine, Alabama, Massachusetts, Missouri, Vermont, and West Virginia, is upgrading its network in the Shoreham Telephone service area. This fiber broadband initiative includes the construction of approximately 23 miles of Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) network in portions of several communities, resulting in the availability of symmetrical Gigabit Internet to approximately 450 locations. The anticipated completion date for the construction is mid to late fall of 2021 at which time OTELCO will begin scheduling installations.  Interested residents can visit www.otelco.com/shorehamvt to learn more and sign up for priority installations.

The project consists of three separate build areas. The Orwell – Benson border around Perch Pond, Sunset Lake and Sunrise Lake will see 115 locations served with FTTP. In Northern Hubbardton and southwest Sudbury, a build around Warrior Lakes, Echo Lake, Burr Pond, and Beebe Pond will serve an additional 285 locations. The third area is in southwest Cornwall on the northeast border of Shoreham and includes 51 locations.

“For more than a century, first the Shoreham Telephone Company, and now OTELCO, has served several communities in Addison County. Upgrading our existing copper network to fiber will allow us to continue our tradition of delivering best-in-class service to these communities,” commented OTELCO CEO Richard Clark. Clark also encouraged folks to visit www.otelco.com/shorehamvt to learn more and check availability for their location. Should community interest indicate, OTELCO could consider expanding the build at a future date.

OTELCO has a dedicated webpage, www.otelco.com/shorehamvt, to provide project information, updates, and an interactive map to help area residents see if their location is part of the build.
