Every year, OTELCO likes to look back at the blogs that stood out most to our readers. In 2019 the OTELCO blog team produced 27 posts, including this one, with three more to come out before the year ends. Our posts included a Summer Streaming Guide, some discussion on Cyber Security, and a profile of one of our longtime customers.
All in all, we had a great time this year writing blogs for you, and we are so excited to share the five OTELCO blogs you liked best.
Robocalls are a national menace. These seedy operations use spoofing to trick consumers into answering the phone and then attempt to swindle them into sharing personal information like credit card or social security numbers. Robocalling has been a hot button issue in Washington throughout 2019, and just this week, the House passed the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, a bipartisan bill that aims to protect the public from these telephone terrorists. This OTELCO blog explains how robocalling works, and how you can keep obnoxious callers from your phone.
In March, Senator Angus Kind introduced the Save the Internet bill. As a strong proponent of Net Neutrality, King has, since the senate overturned the Internet Consumer Privacy Order, been working to ensure that the Internet stays out of the control of “big business” who stand to exploit it. In this OTELCO blog, we took a deep dive into the battle for the Internet and created a comprehensive timeline that follows the history of Net Neutrality.
We talk a lot on the OTELCO blog about how fast fiber is, but did you know that it also better for the environment? Fiber optics are a greener Internet solution. In this special Earth Day post, we explain how fiber wastes fewer resources and consumes less energy than traditional broadband solutions. Plus, it doesn’t result in hazardous chemicals, or toxic by-products like copper does.
Managed Services are IT solutions for businesses of all sizes. They can save time, money, and valuable resources, especially during a data crisis. When working with a Managed Services provider (MSP), the first thing you will want to establish is a Service Level Agreement (SLA). In this OTELCO blog post, we explain what an SLA is, and what you should expect from your MSP when creating one. It is a must-read for anyone who is considering making a move to Managed Services.
Finally, the most popular OTELCO blog of 2019 was the announcement of our Alabama Broadband Deployment Plan. In June of this year, OTELCO announced our intention to invest $5 million into our Alabama footprint, including Lightwave fiber expansion and upgrades to our existing broadband infrastructure. VP of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service, Trevor Jones, made the announcement. In his blog, Trevor outlines the company’s strategy to improve connectivity throughout the Yellow Hammer state. Later this month, we will take a look at the progress we have made with the deployment plan in our 2019 Fiber by the Numbers post.
